MOT TESTING

An MOT certificate confirms, that at the time of the test, without dismantling the vehicle, meets the minimum acceptable environmental and road safety standards as required by law. The test does not cover the condition of the engine, clutch or gearbox. When a vehicle fails the MOT test, it can be re-tested at the same station for free, within 24hours for items that are considered “minor items”.  For other items a retest fee of £10 applies, within 10 working days, unless we repair your vehicle, in which case, there is no retest fee, providing the time lapsed is no greater than 10 working days.

MOT REPAIRS

If your car fails the MOT, don’t worry. We are fully equipped to repair your car, re-test the vehicle and get you back on the road in no time!

SERVICING

A Full Service will cover the following aspects: Engine oil & filter change, air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs (if fitted) and pollen filter change (where applicable).  Checks and topping up of the fluids, including brake and power steering fluids. Checking of the brakes, suspension and general condition underneath the vehicle will also be done.

CLUTCH REPLACEMENTS

If you think you have a problem with your clutch, bring your vehicle to us, we can listen to the problem that you report and test drive your vehicle to give you our opinion and if necessary a price on replacement of the clutch. General clutch problems are: Slipping of the clutch, due to contamination of oil or wear and tear. Vibration felt through the clutch pedal during operation. Clutch pedal dropping to the floor, due to failure of the pressure plate

HEAD GASKETS

How can you tell if your engine has a faulty/blown head gasket?

Some Head gasket failures are extremely easy to diagnose, while others require specialist tools for testing. Common signs of head gasket failure are oil residue mixed in the coolant/coolant mixed in oil (visible by what can only be described as mayonaise in either the expansion tank or on the oil cap), another sign is oil or water leaking externally from the gasket. When replacing a head gasket it is good practise to have the cylinder head pressure tested and skimmed, to ensure the head is not warped, free from cracks and also so the new gasket has a fresh surface to seal on.

This is why when we at HRS replace a head gasket we always have cylinder heads pressure tested and skimmed. We also replace any stretch bolts and all other gaskets associated with the cylinder head. It is also essential to find the reasons why the head gasket has failed. Failure to do so may cause the gasket to fail again prematurely. The majority of the time a failure on behalf of the coolant system is the cause of head gasket failure.

Radiators/Thermostats/Water pumps/ temperature switches should all be investigated and replaced if there is any suspicion of there reliability. If you think you may have a problem with your head gasket, bring it along to us, we will take a look over your vehicle and give you our professional opinion.

SUSPENSION PUMP-UPS

At HRS we have the tooling to pump up hydrolastic suspension systems, from Metro’s to MGF’s, maintaining the correct height for your vehicle is essential for correct tyre wear and ride comfort. It can also help to prevent damage to the underside of your vehicle from speed bumps.

BRAKES

Your brakes are probably the most important part of your car. So it is essential that a trained mechanic repairs any part of your braking system. There are a few different types of braking systems fitted to todays vehicles. Some require specialist tools, for example electronic handbrakes on newer Audi’s. These are not the type of tools your DIY mechanic will have, but here at HRS we have a variety of up to date tools, to repair the braking system of your vehicle. Give us a ring for a quote to repair or replace the brakes on your car today.

DIAGNOSTIC TESTING

Performing a diagnostic test can reveal a number of possible problems associated with many systems on your vehicle, from engine management and transmission systems to interior functions like central locking, air conditioning and airbags to name but a few.

Usually if there is a problem with your vehicle and it has engine management systems, it will display a yellow malfunction light on your dashboard, although this is not always the case.Diagnostic testing can only usually be carried out using specialist diagnostic software.

This is usually very expensive and costly to keep up to date, so not every garage will invest in this equipment. At HRS, we can have your vehicle tested on site using up to date diagnostic software, covering a large majority of todays vehicle range.

INSURANCE REPAIRS

If you are unfortunate enough to be involved in a accident where your car is damaged, then give us a call, we can quote on all insurance work, and can also deal directly with your insurer, taking the stress out of having your car repaired.

TYRES

There are many reasons why you made need new tyres, from general wear, un-repairable punctures, buldges to distorted tyre tread. We can also carry out puncture repairs. Punctures in the tread area of the tyre can often be repaired if the tyre has not been driven in a flat condition. Strict rules also apply to what and how tyre repairs are carried out, they are laid in (BS AU159) British Standard. We can supply and fit tyres on site, at a competative price.

EXHAUSTS

A car exhaust removes harmful gases away from the engine and passenger compartment, and helps keep the engine running at peak efficiency.

If it is malfunctioning, it can effect the cars performance and can even pose a health hazard as harmful toxins are released. It’s normally pretty obvious if there is a problem with your exhaust system, usually indicated by a louder than usual exhaust note. If you think you may have a problem with your exhaust, pop it in to us, and we will asses and quote for a replacement or repair.

WHEEL ALIGNMENT

Incorrect wheel alignment can result in rapid, irregular tyre wear and can even affect the handling and safety of the vehicle. If your car pulls to one side, or you are noticing irregular tyre wear, then get in touch ASAP so we can take a look and fix it on-site.

WELDING

We will take on most welding jobs on your vehicle, although in general, cars require less welding nowadays, due to improved rust treatment and vehicle design at the factory.Drop in and we will quote on the repairs you require.

TIMING BELTS

Timing Belts require replacement at specific intervals, depending on the make and model of your car. Some require changing from as little as 30,000miles, others are due after 150,000miles. It is very important that your timing belt is changed, preferably before its recommended renewal interval, as failure of a timing belt or any of its associated tensioners or idlers, can cause very expensive engine damage. Usually a timing belt failure will cause valve damage, in some extreme cases, piston damage.

Changing a timing belt at its correct interval is ALWAYS cheaper than repairing the subsequent engine damage! We can replace timing belts on all makes and models, so ring us for a quote.
